The university seeks to appoint a clinical professor of surgery with special focus on breast cancer surgery to commence as soon as possible. The externally funded professorship is combined with a consultancy at Department of Breast Surgery at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital in the Capital Region.
It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the consultancy. In order to be considered for the position, the applicant must send two applications: one to the Faculty (the professorship) and one to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the consultancy. Job description
In the consideration of applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of surgery.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research in methods to improve surgical treatment of breast cancer towards less invasive procedures with focus on better quality of life for survivors by preserving the breast contour and reducing axillary surgery and the risk of arm morbidity.
- Contribute to the national development of breast cancer surgery through close collaboration with the DBCG.
- Support nurse research in identifying psychologically vulnerable breast cancer patients who benefit from extended supportive care.
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination and guidance and supervision of bachelor and master students as well as PhD students
- Primary supervision of PhD students and candidate students in breast cancer surgery research at the Department of Breast Surgery at the Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, as well as co-supervision of PhD students in collaborating departments such as the Department of Plastic Surgery in the reconstruction field.
- Overall responsible for teaching medical students in breast cancer and breast surgery at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. Together with associated professor giving lectures and class teaching in breast surgery and breast cancer at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
- Responsible for coordinating clinical stay for medical students together with the Department of Plastic Surgery at Herlev Hospital
- Responsible for developing cases and questions for medical exam at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
- Research leadership
- Being the head of the research team, including nurse research, at the Department of Breast Surgery, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.
- Being responsible for seeking funding resources, recruitment of younger talented researchers, and guiding the group in Danish research legislation, permission for new projects and ethical considerations
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in the public debate

Terms of employment
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of five years.
For the professorship the appointee will receive a pensionable annual salary of 199,527.05 DKK (1 April 2023 level).
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
